Piercings

Aftercare information for all ear/nostril piercings.

After your piercing, it’s normal for the area to feel slightly red, tender, or itchy for the first few days. It’s very important to avoid touching the piercing with unwashed hands and to minimize movement of the jewelry—less movement means faster healing. Clean the area twice daily using a sterile saline spray, applying it to both the front and back of the piercing. Gently wipe away any excess product afterward, as the site should not remain moist; it needs oxygen to heal properly. Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, and saunas for at least two weeks.

Check your piercing weekly to ensure you can still see the post from the back and that any swelling or redness decreases within the first week. A downsize appointment is recommended at six weeks to help prevent irritation and promote proper healing. Please note that piercing bumps are common and not the same as keloids—if you experience irritation or moisture bumps, contact your piercer. For any signs of infection, embedding, or other medical concerns, contact your healthcare provider. Buildup is normal for body modifications such as piercings- regularly take out your earrings and clean your jewelry after 8-10 weeks. Shape and Shade Studio is not responsible for your jewelry or maintenance- should you lose a piece of jewelry throughout the healing process contact your piercer asap as your piercing may be able to be saved within 24 hours.

Minors will require assistance in caring for piercing sites. It is the parents responsibility to ensure aftercare steps are followed and to seek professional help if infection occurs - little ones have curious hands with bacteria filled fingers. Keep a sharp eye on minors 16 and under to ensure safe healing!
